Runnymede - Friday nights under the lights

Runnymede - Friday nights under the lights

A few big weeks for the Rebels with all teams showing determination, teamwork and plenty of grit across the weekends. It’s fantastic seeing the players continue to build their confidence, skills and game awareness each week, while supporting and encouraging one another out on the field.

Friday 15 May

U10 Rebels vs L’ville/Gumb

Many parents this week were all commenting on how blessed they have been for such balmy nights for Friday night junior football. Well, the little boys noses and faces were well and truly damp from sweat in the balmy weather.

The boys took a little time to settle into the first quarter.

The second quarter saw them kick two goals! An incredible effort to Jack Simmie on the specky and goal.

The boys continued their momentum and never gave up. The second half saw them get another 2 goals! Our best scoring yet! The more the weeks roll on the more they build their skills and go hard on the ball.

Thanks to the boys who helped Tonny out for the night.

Best on ground - Jack Simmie (Elmore IGA), Nate Fink (Colbo Store), Charlie Renshaw (Molly & Max).

U10 Best on ground: Jack Simmie, Nate Fink and Charlie Renshaw.

U12

Runnymede U/12s made the trek to Gunbower on Friday night, a little short on players, on what was a perfect night for football.

A slow start saw LG get the upper hand early but to the group’s credit they regrouped at half time and came out with a fantastic second half. With numerous goal kickers hitting the scoreboard and the defenders working tirelessly all night, the team showed plenty of determination and resilience. A great effort from the whole group to never give in and finish the game strongly.

U15

This week saw the U15 boys make the trek up to Gunbower to face Leitchville-Gunbower. Whilst they didn’t come away with a win, the boys continued to work together in what was a well fought game, by giving it their all and not backing down to ensure the pressure was kept on the ladder leaders. Well done to our goal kickers.

Runnymede Rebels vs Magpies

Plenty of great effort across all age groups, with players continuing to give their all each week.

Friday  22 May

U10 - Rebels vs. Moama Magpies

This week it was nice to be on home turf against the Magpies from Moama.

The boys came out firing and were competitive with a cracking goal from the sidelines by the pocket rocket Charlie Renshaw. Special mention to Thomas Boers also who was an incredible strength in the backline.

The second and third quarters the boys lost steam The final quarter saw the team lift but the magpies were just too quick and sharp for the little guys.

Best on ground: Clem Knight, Thomas Boers and Edward Ayres

U12

Runnymede Rebels vs. Tongala

Perfect conditions and a great crowd at Elmore under lights. Tongala got the early jump putting Runnymede under pressure. To Runnymede’s credit, the group responded strongly in the second quarter and carried that intensity for the remainder of the game.

The voice around the ground lifted. The boys efforts never dropped away and the teamwork on display was a real highlight.

Unfortunately, the early scoreboard damage proved too much to overcome, but there were plenty of positives to take away from the performance and the way the group stuck at it right until the final siren.

U15 - Rebels vs. L’ville Gunbower

This week saw the Rebels at home in Elmore for a rematch against Leitchville/Gunbower Bombers. LG came out strong early, holding the Rebels scoreless in the opening quarter.

Despite the tough start, the boys responded with great defensive pressure, restricting LG to just three points for the term.

The Rebels lifted their intensity in the second quarter, attacking the contest with determination and working hard to close the gap. Although LG were able to capitalise on their opportunities and take control of the game, the Rebels showed plenty of character, fighting hard right through to the final siren.
