‘Love Murchison’ day - a rainy Sunday
By Helen Truran
What a resilient group of volunteers Murchison has! On Sunday 25 October volunteers from many Murchison organisations braved the second wet day planned to exhibit their services to the community.
After needing to postpone the original date because the heavy rain had made the ground unfit for the event at the Recreational Reserve, the second attempt was also marred by rain and wind. Nevertheless, the volunteers of Murchison came out, set up their tents and displays, shared their knowledge and passion for their various organisations and put on a show for those who braved the weather and attended.
Small towns rely on volunteers to provide the services required to allow the community to function well and Murchison is no exception.
Small towns require health and well-being services, community organisations, safety responders and care for the elderly and children.

On Sunday, volunteers from Murchison SES and CFA attended to share their expertise and equipment to the community who rely on them in times of disaster, mishap or tragedy – their well-trained and dedicated volunteers there to share the service they provide to the town.
Among the other tent stands were the Murchison retirement Village, “Wybalena” and the Murchison and District Historical Society, both sheltering from the rain as they engaged with community members about their organisations and encouraged the community to consider joining as volunteers.
The entertainment was provided on the day by the Ludlow Twins, Lucy and Steph who also braved the weather to entertain the crowd.

Organiser of the event, Murchison Community House Manager, Jess also braved the day, saying she could not ask the volunteers to postpone again so they went ahead despite the weather. The Murchison community is fortunate to have such dedicated volunteers and they encourage community members to consider volunteering in an area of their own interest to support the overall community.
