A ripper day for Kids with Cancer funds

Thanks from Billy and Katrina:

A ripper day for Kids with Cancer funds

What a ripper day it was for the 12th Shearing for Kids with Cancer Shearing Day at the famous “Corydon Shearing Shed” of Val and Bill Barlow in Wanalta. The sun was shining all day with plenty of people coming from near and far to support this wonderful charity, My Room.

The team had 440 sheep to shear with 10 stands set up for 20 shearers to take in turns with pulling in and out of gear. The roustabouts were kept busy with plenty of fleeces hitting the table or using the brooms.

We would like to thank everyone who worked in the shed on the day. Without these incredible people we would not be able to host this annual event. They all donate their time, services and skills for this day to run. We would also like to thank Ben and Rick from Heiniger for the use of their combs, cutters and handpieces for the day.

We also had three young lads who decided to shave their heads for Wigs4Kids. Thank you to Kade, Tom and Whyatt. We also had two boys who shaved their heads a couple of weeks ago donated it to this worthy cause. Thank you, James, and Huddo for contributing to My Room.

After the locks were removed, we started on the live auction. We had 55 items up for grabs which included lime, gypsum, crushed rock, diesel, load of water, golf package, wine, shearing gear, handmade quilts, cruise package, Brad’s Magic Meats voucher, chainsaws and loaded eskies.

Then we headed over to start selling the wood. We had 17 trailer loads with the biggest going for $2300. We would like to thank Ike and Jake Jones and their team for their massive work on cutting up all the wood for us to load into the trailers. Thanks to all our Wanalta wood cutting crew for loading the trailers ready to go. Thank you to all the other wonderful people from this community who donated loads of wood too. Really appreciate it.

During the day there was a silent auction running with plenty of bids being made. We had 33 items available including Field Day passes, photography session, wine, hampers, camping stove, golf packages and electrical products.

We completed the day with the raffle. There were 137 prizes to win so there was some very happy people when it finished. We would like to thank all the businesses and wonderful people around our community that donated to this. You are all amazing!

We would like to thank Nigel, Christopher and the Elders team of Bendigo for their auctioneering expertise. Thank you for letting the young ones have a go.   You do a fantastic job every year and we really appreciate this.

Thank you to Farmer Grant and Hayden for suppling our shirts for the day, again. FuzzTrans for being one of our major sponsors every year; Kaylene and Krystal for manning the entry tent; Denis, Judy and Sarah for suppling our wonderful lunch; Scotty Thomson for his amazing camp-oven cooking throughout the day; Ben, Hugh, Carnie, Ray and Raymond for cooking the BBQ for lunch; Leanne Cleary, Aunty Wendy, Rochester Café and Dennis Hardie for making some delicious sweet treats for morning tea; Lance and Matt for serving cold drinks; Bruce and Sam for their help and their much-loved contribution; Warwick Long for coming across and broad- casting from our event;  Margaret Zita from My Room for coming up and being part of our day. We would also like to thank the hard-working Mark, Teresa and Loretta for keeping the show running. THANK YOU!!

It was an awesome effort by everyone to work together and raise some much-needed funds to go to the My Room Children’s Cancer Charity and try and make a difference for children and their families who have got the long road ahead. My Room is an organisation raising funds for childhood cancer research, clinical care, family support and to improve the quality of life for children with cancer. 95c out of every $1 donated is going back to support the families.

We would like to thank everyone who come out on the day and we cannot believe that we have raised

$103,977.84

Without everyone’s support and generosity by buying raffle tickets and bidding on the auction items, we would not have been able to make this incredible amount.

We truly thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts, as we would not be able to raise this amount without your dedication and fantastic effort by all involved.

A big thank you again from Billy and Katrina Ogden. We truly appreciate all the hard work everyone puts into this day.
