Rosie’s Recycle finds a fresh new home

After my weekend coffee catch-up with friends our next stop is a chat with Sue at ‘Rosie’s Recycle’. We never seem to walk out empty handed after buying something we just couldn’t resist.
Now recently relocated to a lovely new shop, thanks to Jaz from the General Store and her helpers, Sue is now more able to display her wide range of clothing, shoes, bags and accessories in a larger, lighter space.
Sue’s passion for fashion began when she was a teenager visiting a second hand clothing shop in Bourke Street, aptly named ‘Recycle’ and managed by a high fashion model, Dawn Scott. I remember this shop too - one of the first fashion recycling shops in the late 1970’s. Unlike the op-shops I frequented, the clothes and accessories were way out of my price range but they were gorgeous, exclusive and a visual delight. Sue lay-byed a beautiful red cardigan which was over $100 (a huge amount in those days) and caught the train into the city each week to make payments on this coveted piece.
For the past eight years Sue has had her own fashion recycling business here in Rushworth gathering loyal clients from near and far. Good quality designer, vintage and on-trend pieces in all sizes are personally sourced enabling her customers to take home high quality fashion for usually under $50 - amazing value! Stock is constantly moving so every week there is something new to look at and slow moving items are put on a $5 rack outside the shop.
As the fashion industry is now one of the world’s largest polluters and Australia the global leader in fast fashion consumption, choosing second-hand is one of the most responsible things you can do.
We’re fortunate to have ‘Rosie’s Recycle’ in Rushworth where we can choose wisely, dress beautifully and tread lightly on the planet.
