I love the presence of tiny ducklings at Bohollow and watching them grow so quick, within eight weeks newly hatched ducklings transform from tiny balls of fluff to flying wanderers of our wetlands.

I have sat back in silence and watched things unfold while the world has seemed to go a little crazy of late. We received many phone calls daily for about three weeks running for the duration of the horrific fires which hit our state this season. Social media was rampant with blame, false accusations and many fundraising activities to raise money and supplies for burnt wildlife.

Bohollow has been buzzing with the incessant calls of baby birds. We are always pushed to our limits each year during the height of the nesting season. The only saving grace is that baby birds grow extremely quickly so as fast as we are preparing fledglings to fend for themselves and releasing, more are pouring in through the shelter’s doors.

It is always wonderful to see the wildlife who come into care at Bohollow get back to their wild homes and it is the rewarding aspect of what we do. Just over a week ago Deb and I released a young female koala back to the eucalyptus trees of Loch Garry.
