There is something about the Christmas season (whatever it means to you - religious festival, Santa gifts or welcome holiday time) that still manages to bring people together in a festive spirit to celebrate and be merry. This is most evident at each of our town carols nights when residents get together to ‘sing out loud and sing out strong’ all the old favourite traditional Christmas songs and to enjoy some musical entertainment and other fun activities.
The Big Wet
After two weeks of record breaking November heat, we may well have thought the tropics had moved south on the weekend, with rain, rain and more rain leading to flash flooding and closed roads.
Fire Season starts - new tanker arrives
Rushworth’s new Heavy Tanker recently rolled into town and has since been put through it paces by enthusiastic members of the local Fire Brigade. The new tanker carries 4000 litres (four tonnes) of water, of which 3500 litres are available for fire fighting. By law, the remaining 500 litres are kept in reserve to protect fire-fighters in case the vehicle is trapped in a sea of flame. If a burn-over does occur, a highly-reliable quenching system is activated, dousing the huge vehicle in a protective envelope of water. Testing by the Brigade has demonstrated the power, manoeuvrability and flexibility of the new tanker, just in time for the Fire Danger Period.
